It will happen one day, he knows it. He shares his research with his family, who see the truth in what he's found.  Secretly for years, Paul has been building a secret underground bunker to accommodate his large family in the event of the apocalypse. Chances are, they won't be able to go above ground. There may be some risk-takers who try to attack and steal from homes, so it needs to appear derelict and without the chance for any beneficial theft.  He bought an old little home and made it look as abandoned as possible. Then, he builds the bunker.
